Steven’s passion for design began with a 7th grade drafting class. A few years later, he began working for a custom home builder, picking up trash and digging ditches. As his skills developed he became a journeyman carpenter and obtained his Contractor’s License in 1995. Steven continued his journey at U.C Berkeley where he studied design and architecture. After graduation and a decade of residential remodeling in the San Francisco Bay area, he moved to San Diego to join Marrokal Design & Remodeling.

Remodeling is a complex process with many variables, and Steven acts as the client’s advocate from beginning to end. Having designed and built hundreds of projects, he understands the gravity of being trusted with people’s homes and significant investment levels. While helping to define goals, create options and maximize value and efficiency, he is often also able to anticipate and mitigate challenges before they arise. When you work with Marrokal’s team, there is always a solution.
Education continues to be a top priority for Steven having obtained certifications in Construction Management, CGBP (Certified Green Building Professional) and CAPS (Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist). Through continual reading and annual conferences, he not only stays current with the latest building products, design trends and techniques; but leads the way, with many of his projects being published, selected for design tours and winning local and national awards.
