Kitchens are where you prep your meals and bond with the family. But today, they’re so much more than that. Homeowners have different priorities for their kitchens. Some focus on feeding several guests at once while others place importance on cooking and having space to mingle with family and guests while they fix the meal. By asking yourself what you want in a kitchen, kitchen remodeling can go from overwhelming to a fun, enjoyable, and successful experience.
Here are some tips from Marrokal Design & Remodeling.
Daily Use
The kitchen is one of the most (if not the most) used areas of the home. This means your kitchen remodeling project should take into account how busy it is. For example, you might have family gatherings that need to seat more than five people at a time. On the other hand, if you live alone, you can cut down costs by making a smaller, streamlined kitchen.
Costs or Value
The priorities for every homeowner, be it a room addition or a minor home improvement, are cost and value. Look at the possible things you’ll get for your kitchen. Every single item, from the cabinets to the flooring, has a price tag.
When choosing what to add, consider your needs; your budget may make some things mutually exclusive. For instance, adding a nicer cabinet can up your storage game, but doing so precludes buying a better stove, which can make cooking easier and quicker.
Faster or Longer
Renovating a kitchen takes time, and you might be tempted to change a few things halfway through the project. Consulting with a design-build team that walks you through the remodeling process and shows you what’s possible before you even begin, will help eliminate the need to change direction in the middle of a project. The contractor will also provide a timeline and discuss materials and architectural plans.
If there is a need to modify the plans or you find that you want to make a change in things like materials, a change order may be necessary. Depending on the type of change order, there may be a cost, for instance, if you’re adding more square footage. Your contractor will review this with you to ensure it meets your desires and budget.
