Sherwin-Williams is predicting feisty self-expression and soulful nostalgia to combine in the hues of paint that homeowners will choose in 2017.
They refer to it as a “shared future” and are releasing colors with names like: noir, holistic, intrepid, and unbounded to bring energy and bold color to rooms throughout the house.
“Our forecast this year is an exploration of the trends and influences that are emerging to drive design towards a state of restless energy,” said Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams. “Each of our four palettes tell a distinct color story, offering opportunities for homeowners and professionals alike to explore color in new and exciting ways.”
The Sherwin-Williams team of design and color experts, led by Wadden, developed the 2017 forecast based on extensive research and insights into global trends.
Here’s a closer look at the four color palettes which each consist of 10 colors and an explanation about each by Sherwin-Williams.
Noir: The Dutch masters knew the secret: dark hues set a dramatic stage for sensuous luster. This palette is rich with vine ripe fruits, Nordic blues, moody neutrals and golden yellows.
Holistic: “Doing good” is the new looking good, and it’s taking the form of “voluntourism,” healing retreats and eco-travel. We’re in pursuit of an elusive ideal: a fair luxury. The roads of this journey are lined with arctic neutrals, blush rose and wild browns.
Intrepid: “You do you” is the mantra of a generation primed for self-expression, cheered on by their own #squad and tossing aside old categories. There’s a feisty energy to our present moment, arriving in fiery tones and vibrant, kimono colors.
Unbounded: Overconsumption is, well, over. We’re more likely to invest in the best we can afford–crafted and customized–and then keep it forever. Global consciousness is a mural painted in earthy mustards, ocean blues, corals and mud.
