How Fireplaces Can Lighten Up Your Whole House Remodel

Fireplaces have a rich tradition in family homes throughout history. They were essential for providing warmth during the winter and as source of cooking heat all year round. The construction of many modern homes have diverted attention away from the fireplace by reducing its size, changing its location or not putting one in the home at all. Many San Diego home owners may think that they don’t even need a fireplace addition in their home remodel because of our warm weather, but they would be missing an important tool for family connectivity and decoration. Fireplace additions provide a gathering area for family and friends and provide a decorative centerpiece to any room they are in.

If your family recognizes the appeal of a fireplace but doesn’t want to deal with the hassle of getting wood or the risk of starting a fire, there are fireplaces that use gas or electricity to create the same effect as wood burning fireplaces. If you’re home already has natural gas, then a gas burning fireplace can be implemented fairly easily into an existing room. Gas fireplaces provide the same warmth and spectacle as their wood burning counterparts but can be controlled with much great precision and don’t involve the same kind of cleanup. Fake ceramic logs also provide the same visual appeal as real burning wood.

There are nearly countless ways in which a fireplace can be integrated within an existing home. You can construct a fireplace along the edge of a room or in the corner depending on how you want the rest of the room to look and the orientation of the furniture. You can also construct the fireplace the be the center column of two different rooms like the San Diego home remodel photograph above. Notice how the fireplace is placed so that people in two different rooms can appreciate it at once. This fireplace also acts as a physical barrier, adding function and style to something that would normally be boring like a slab of drywall.
