Due to how busy the kitchen can get, it’s one of the parts of your property that will benefit from adding or maximizing natural lighting. If you’re planning a home remodeling project, we recommend prioritizing daylighting in your kitchen.
Below, Marrokal Design & Remodeling shares a few pointers to do just that.
Streamline Your Kitchen
Streamlining the surfaces of your kitchen can improve how well light travels across the room. The simplest way to do this is to get rid of any obstructions to your windows, such as unnecessary knickknacks and decorative pieces. If it’s necessary to move a table or countertop, do so. Streamlining your kitchen also makes it more spacious, which is great if you have a small kitchen.
Windows and Kitchen Countertops
Ideally, the windows in your kitchen should be located in the main functional positions of the entire space, such as the sink, countertops or cooking area. Since the eyes naturally gravitate toward these parts of the kitchen, these should be the areas with more natural light. The visual effect is clear; if the focal area of your kitchen is well lit, your entire space will look roomier, saving you money on potential room additions and extensions.
For existing kitchens, the sinks and cooking area aren’t your only highlights. You can also move the kitchen table or extended work area next to the window to draw the eye.
Use Mirrors Strategically
Even small mirrors, when placed in strategic areas in your kitchen, can help the natural light entering the space travel better and farther. Ideally, you should place them beside or across your primary windows, although placing them anywhere where natural light is at the most concentrated will do the trick.
