A small kitchen remodel is always a challenging one: you have to make sure that every inch counts in terms of functionality, but without sacrificing comfort and aesthetics. If you happen to have a small kitchen, we have some remodeling solutions.
No Island? Add A Prep Table
If your kitchen can’t accommodate a full kitchen island, having a multipurpose table that can function as a prep table and breakfast nook can help save some space. It’s very important to consider the prep table’s height since you will use it standing up when prepping, and sitting down when eating. For even smaller living spaces, install a floating table set against a wall or you can save even more space by choosing a fold-down table.
Install Folding Doors
When you’re living in a studio-type apartment, reducing visual clutter can do a lot. A unique home remodeling solution for a one-wall kitchen is to install folding doors or panels that hide the kitchen when you need to. It makes your living space look cleaner and hides cluttered cabinets. It can even be a bit of a showpiece for guests – ideal if you’re planning a reveal, like a surprise birthday cake.
Ditch the Upper Cabinets, Instead Use Shelves
Upper cabinets are a staple of most kitchen designs, but in a small kitchen, it can make the space feel like you’re in a cave. Replace the cabinets with open shelves to open up the area and allow the rest of the wall to connect with the ceiling. Note that you will have to make sure that everything that you put on the shelves is organized, as there will be no cabinet doors to hide them.
Install a Pot Rack
If you have a U-shaped small kitchen, you’ll likely have a lot of free ceiling space. Maximize your vertical storage by installing a pot rack. In addition to putting all your cookware in one place, the air will help them dry faster. And, if you happen to have quality pots and pans, a pot rack makes a nice showcase for them.
